A Notice Regarding the Restoration at the Temple

As part of the 800 Year Memorial Celebration of Our Founder Hōnen, Chion-in commenced restorative work on the Mieidō (the hall which houses the image of Hōnen) and the Shūedō (assembly hall). This project began in 2005 and is expected to take fifteen years. Since the reconstruction of the Mieidō and Shūedō more than 350 years ago, major repairs have not been performed on either building. For this reason, both buildings will be partially dismantled as part of the repair work. First, repairs will be done on the Shūedō, and after the 800 Year Memorial Celebration of Our Founder Hōnen is completed, repair work on the Mieidō will begin. This important repair work is being done in order to pass on these cultural treasures to future generations. As a result, we have made modifications to the viewing courses, the entrances for buses and automobiles, as well as the visitor walkways. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you during your visit to Chion-in, but we kindly ask for your cooperation and understanding.
